Old Veneers Had to Go, Don Revitalizes His Smile with New Porcelain Veneers Laguna Niguel

Below, Don's old porcelain veneers. He didn't like the color, thought his teeth were too short and the old porcelain veneers looked fake. Above, the new set of porcelain veneers we made for Don with Empress porcelain. We made his new teeth whiter, longer, filled the spaces between his teeth hear his gum line, covered over his dark roots, giving him a beautiful, natural looking smile.

Don is a handsome father of three from Laguna Niguel.  He has his own business and understands the value of having a nice smile when dealing with his customers.  A pretty good athlete when he was a young man, Don chipped several teeth pretty badly while playing ball.  About twenty years ago he broke down and got porcelain veneers from his family dentist, which fixed his chipped teeth.  However, Don said he was never really happy with the way his dentist did his old porcelain veneers.

After wearing his old porcelain veneers for over twenty years, Don decided it was time to revitalize his smile with a new set of porcelain veneers by Dr. Huefner

After years of frustration, Don came to our cosmetic dental practice in Laguna Niguel to discuss “getting new porcelain veneers.”  “Of course we can remove your old porcelain veneers and make you new ones”, we told Don.  But since he was unhappy with the set of porcelain veneers made for him twenty years ago we needed to know what changes he would want with his new smile?

After some thinking and looking at the photos of his teeth and smile, Don explained what he didn’t like and wanted changed:

  • First of all, I want my teeth whiter.  The porcelain veneers they made before were way too yellow
  • I don’t like the spaces in between my teeth around my gum line
  • You can see where the old porcelain veneers end and how dark my roots are.  That doesn’t look good at all!
  • I think my teeth are too short.
  • My old porcelain veneers just look fake.  They don’t look like real teeth.

For Don's new set of porcelain veneers we utilized Empress porcelain, the "softened" smile style from the LVI tooth shape catalog, a BL2 tooth color from the tooth shade guide and slightly longer teeth.

Most of the things Don listed we would have corrected anyway.  But it was helpful for Don to be very specific about what he didn’t like and wanted changed.  We wanted to make sure that the new porcelain veneers we made for him looked great, made him happy and exceeded his expectations.

We did Don’s cosmetic dentistry with eight new porcelain veneers.  It took about 2 1/2 weeks.  Don chose a BL2 shade from the tooth shade guide and a “softened” smile style from the LVI tooth shape catalog, which is a more youthful masculine looking smile design.  We lengthened his teeth, as he requested.  We also covered over his dark underlying roots and filled the spaces around his gum line.  We also used a stronger and more natural looking porcelain, Empress porcelain, for his new veneers.

The end result for Don was a very masculine, attractive, healthy looking smile.

Hodgepodge Teeth Changed to Beautiful Uniform Smile with Porcelain Veneers Orange County

laguna niguel porcelain veneers

Claudia's hodgepodge smile was transformed with beautiful Empress porcelain veneers and all-porcelain crowns. A shade BL2 was utilized along with an "enhanced" smile style from the LVI smile catalog.

Claudia had the same problem so many people have today.  Every few years she had a cavity, chipped tooth or broken filling on one particular tooth and then had the single tooth fixed.  But also she moved numerous times over the past two decades, so each time she went to a different dentist.  Then after the years of this type of one-tooth-at-a-time dentistry had been repeated over and over, she ended up with a hodgepodge smile.  Her teeth were a shamble of various styles, techniques and different kinds of dental restorations and none of them matched or looked “real”.

One day Claudia was having lunch with one of her dear friends.  She kept looking at her friend trying to figure out why she looked different? It was obvious that she didn’t have plastic surgery, but she looked younger.  Finally Claudia broke down and asked her friend why she looked great, what did she have done?

Old mismatched dentistry needing replacement and upgrade

Claudia's mismatch of different types of dental restorations, colors and techniques was long overdue to be upgraded into a uniform and pleasingly attractive new smile. Her old dentistry was replaced with new Empress porcelain veneers and all-ceramic crowns.

Claudia’s friend explained that she had recently had cosmetic dentistry.  After hearing her story, Claudia realized that she should do the same thing herself and came to see us the following week for a cosmetic dentistry consultation.

Upon evaluating Claudia’s old dentistry on just her six front teeth alone it was noted that she had two plastic veneers, one large composite filling, one natural tooth without any restoration, one tooth with a mismatched porcelain-fused-to-metal crown and one tooth with a 25 year old crown that had broken and been repaired.  Only two of her six front teeth matched and five out of the six had different colors!

Claudia explained to use that she wanted a nice smile like her friend has.  She wanted whiter teeth and for them all to match.  And if possible, for her teeth to look like they haven’t had any dentistry at all done over the years.

After carefully examining her teeth we were all relieved to learn that she didn’t have any infections or new decay, that she just needed to have her old dentistry replaced and upgraded with new cosmetic dentistry, but this time have all her teeth treated at the same time and utilizing the same kind of material.  In Claudia’s case we chose to utilize Empress porcelain veneers and all-porcelain crowns.  This material was chosen because it does not need to be combined with metal to make the restorations (as her old dentistry was).  All-ceramic Empress porcelain without metal is very natural looking and today considered by many dentists as the state-of-the-art material for porcelain veneers and porcelain crowns on front and side teeth.

In designing Claudia’s new smile, we chose to make her teeth slightly longer and a little more round, both characteristics that make teeth appear more feminine and youthful.  She chose shade BL2 from the tooth shade guide and an “enhanced” smile style from the LVI smile catalog.

The results we achieved for Claudia were extremely pleasing to her.  When she looked at her before and after photos she commented that she couldn’t believe she ever let her smile get that bad and how appreciative she was that we given her such a beautiful smile.

Smile Makeover for Russian Beauty with Porcelain Veneers Orange County

orange county porcelain veneers

Natasha got a beautiful new smile by replacing the porcelain veneers done for her in Russia with Empress porcelain veneers at Dr. Huefner's Orange County cosmetic dental practice.

Most people who think of Russia don’t think of beautiful teeth and smiles.  Natasha, a beautiful lady, grew up in Russia and after coming to the U.S. decided she really wanted a beautiful smile.

As a child Natasha never had the benefit of orthodontics or anything but very basic dental care. As an adult in Russia she went to a dentist in her town and had porcelain veneers placed.  The result was an improvement, but still “not beautiful as she had expected.”

Several years later Natasha was fortunate and came to the United States.  Here by comparison she realized how bad her Russian dentistry really was.  One day she came to our cosmetic dental practice in Orange County wanting to know what improvements we could do for her if we replaced her Russian porcelain veneers.

“I know the changes I would make,” Dr. Huefner told Natasha.  “But most importantly I need to know what you don’t like about your teeth and smile.  Then I can suggest alternative ways to design your new porcelain veneers.”

Natasha listed several things that she didn’t like and wanted changed:

  • my teeth look too thick and big
  • they look fake
  • the color is too yellow, I want white teeth
  • my front teeth stick out and you can’t see my side teeth

Natasha didn't like her Russian porcelain veneers. They were too thick, bulky and unnatural looking.

After spending considerable time with Natasha, evaluating her teeth, smile and previous dentistry, Dr. Huefner recommended replacing her “fake looking” (her words) old porcelain veneers with a more real and natural looking semi-translucent Empress porcelain veneersEmpress porcelain is one of the premier porcelain materials used.  It is clearly stronger than most traditional porcelains, and also has very beautiful natural color characteristics.

Natasha’s side teeth leaned inwards so Dr. Huefner advised placing porcelain veneers on her side teeth (bicuspids) as well to give her the appearance of a broader smile.  To make her porcelain veneers look more natural he would add some slight incisal translucency on the edges of her front teeth as wells as a slight surface texture.  These two features were missing in her Russian porcelain veneers and would add much to mimic natural teeth and give her the natural, more youthful appearance that she wanted.  Natasha chose a BL2 shade from the tooth shade guide and an “enhanced” smile style from the LVI smile catalog.

Natasha was excited and began her porcelain veneer treatment almost immediately.  And the results?  Look at the portrait photo we took of Natasha.  Unquestionably a happy beautiful lady with an amazing smile! Coming to the United States was great for Natasha, but coming to Dr. Huefner’s dental practice in Orange County to get beautiful cosmetic dentistry was life changing for her as well.

Replacing old porcelain veneers using natural-looking semi-translucent Empress porcelain veneers orange county

Marion had Dr. Huefner replace four old porcelain veneers with eight Empress porcelain veneers. Minor laser gum reshaping was done on two of her upper bicuspids to make her gums even. She chose a slightly lighter color, but definitely didn't not want a bright-white smile. The end result of having new porcelain veneers was very attractive and natural looking smile.

Marion, a professional from Orange County had four porcelain veneers placed almost two decades ago because her front teeth were crooked and had multiple fillings.  “The results back then were a huge improvement,” Marion told Dr. Huefner at her cosmetic dentistry consultation.  However one day she tripped and bumped her front tooth, resulting in one porcelain veneer breaking.  “The dentist did a good job trying to repair the veneer, but now it just doesn’t look right.  I know I have to replace it with a new one but before I do that I want to know what other options are available?”

Dr. Huefner asked Marion if she was happy with the color of the teeth she could see when she smiled or would she like them to be whiter?  Marion was very clear on the subject of color.  She wouldn’t mind her teeth being a little lighter, but didn’t want a bright white smile.  “I definitely want teeth that look natural”, she went on to say.  “My old porcelain veneers were pretty good, but what would it take to give me an even better looking smile?”

old porcelain veneers

Marion with her four old porcelain veneers, one that had broken and been repaired. The old veneers had improved her smile but she wanted to replace her old veneers and get an even more attractive smile with the new techniques and materials available today.

Carefully listening to Marion’s concerns and wishes, Dr. Huefner looked closely at Marion’s teeth and smile.  She showed eight to ten teeth when she smiled.  Her side-back teeth leaned in a little and she had more gum tissue showing around her bicuspids than the other teeth.  If she wanted something a lot nicer Dr. Huefner recommended reshaping the gums around the two bicuspids with the dental gum laser to reduce the amount of gums showing.  Then he would place eight porcelain veneers, replacing the four old ones, and get a more even, harmoneous smile.  He would use Empress porcelain, which is stronger than the porcelain she had with her original veneers.  Also Empress porcelain has very beautiful, natural and life-like translucency.  For many cosmetic dentists, like Dr. Huefner, Empress porcelain is their preferred material because of it’s superior strength and natural appearance especially when doing smile makeovers with porcelain veneers.

Marion accepted Dr. Huefner’s treatment recommendations.  Eight Empress porcelain veneers were done.  She chose a “softened” smile style from the LVI smile catalog and a shade BL4 from the tooth shade guide.  Her treatment was completed, beginning to end, in three weeks time.

Afterwards, Marion saw her before and after photos.  She said, “I asked for a moderate improvement, but the new porcelain veneers were a huge improvement over the old porcelain veneers!” Marion was one Orange County lady who was very satisfied with her cosmetic dental treatment and fully appreciated the new techniques and improved materials available with today’s porcelain veneers.

Peg Teeth and Misshaped Incisors Transformed Into Sensational Smile with Porcelain Veneers

peggy's beautiful new smile with empress porcelain veneers

Peggy's beautiful new smile with eight empress porcelain veneers by Dr. Huefner

Peggy, a mother of two in her 40s from Mission Viejo, had been coming to our practice since she was a teenager.  As a youngster she had braces, but still was never happy with the way her smile looked.  The problem was her front four teeth were malformed and the shape didn’t look like normal teeth.  She was ready to go back to her professional job, but felt that now was the time that she finally do something to get the smile she had always wanted.  Peggy had talked to Dr. Huefner for the past ten years about having him place porcelain veneers for her and now she was ready to proceed with cosmetic dentistry.

Before creating porcelain veneers for Peggy, Dr. Huefner took photos of her teeth and smile.  Using those photos Peggy and he sat down together, evaluated her teeth and discussed what type of smile she wanted from her porcelain veneer treatment.  Doctor asked her to tell him everything she saw in her smile that she didn’t like, and how she wanted those things changed.  First, Peggy said she definitely wanted whiter teeth.  But they had to “look real”, definitely not super white fake looking veneers that she had seen on some people. Next, she wanted normally shaped teeth.

eight empress porcelain veneers placed to correct peg teeth

The eight porcelain veneers placed by Dr. Huefner accomplished the many things Peggy had for her new smile.

peg laterals and malformed incisors before porcelain veneers

Peggy didn't like the appearance of her abnormally shaped incisors. The lateral incisors were peg shaped and the central incisors didn't have the normal round-rectangular shape.

Her peg lateral incisors needed to be larger, normal size.  And her central incisors needed to have normal shapes too.  She thought her canine teeth were too pointed and too “fang-like”.  Could those be softened a little?  Another thing was that her front six teeth seemed too

pronounced compared to the side teeth, which leaned in.  Could those side teeth be brought out to give her a fuller, well balanced smile? It was obvious to Dr. Huefner that Peggy had been giving much thought to her smile for a long time and now knowing what she wanted he could design her teeth and smile.

Dr.Huefner designed and placed eight porcelain veneers for Peggy, and the entire treatment was completed in just three office visits over a three week period.  Empress porcelain was used, as it is one of the strongest dental porcelains used for porcelain veneers, and also because it allowed a whiter color and at the same time had very natural translucency.

Porcelain Veneers Used to Correct Petra’s Crooked Smile

crooked teeth and poor looking porcelain crowns on her front teeth

Petra didn't like her crooked teeth, and especially the way the two caps looked on her front teeth.

Petra, a new patient of ours from Orange County, CA, didn’t like her crooked teeth and the unlifelike porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns on her front two teeth.  Fair-skinned, blond, blue-eyed, she knew she would look much better with whiter, brighter teeth.  She had done her homework, and knew what she wanted to have done before making her appointment for a cosmetic dentistry consultation.  She wanted her caps replaced and porcelain veneers.

Mismatched porcelain-fused-to-metal caps

Not only did the caps lack natural translucency, but it had a space between them and there was too much gum tissue, making those two teeth appear too short.

At her consultation appointment, we tooth the above photos of Petra’s teeth and smile and asked her, “What else don’t you like about the appearance of your teeth and smile?”  She pointed out that there was a space between her front two teeth, that the color of her two crowns looked unnatural and that the two crowns looked too short because there was more gums around the crowns than the rest of her teeth.

Regarding having more gums on the front two teeth, we recommend that we recontour her gums with our dental gum laser.  There would be no bleeding or unsightly healing period, only some minor discomfort that would last a couple days.  Petra was excited to learn that portion of her treatment would be so easy.

A major concern was that she really wanted “white teeth”, but she also wanted them to appear natural and lifelike.  Thus, Dr. Huefner recommended that he utilize Empress porcelain, one of the stronger and more translucent porcelains available and a particular favorite of Dr. Huefner’s.

The end result really pleased Petra.  Her teeth were finally straight, she had the whiter, brighter tooth color she had always wanted.  The excessive gums that made her teeth look too short were corrected, enabling her to have normal length teeth (which is especially important on the front two teeth).
