Beauty Pageant Winner Wendy and Her New Porcelain Veneers

10 porcelain veneers orange county for wendy by dr. huefner

Wendy, former Mrs. California-Globe, with a sensational smile created with 10 porcelain veneers by Dr. Huefner

Several years ago Wendy was the beauty pageant winner of the Mrs. California-Globe beauty pageant.  Unfortunately the four porcelain veneers she had received by her general dentist twelve years earlier wasn’t giving her the smile she really needed.  She was actually embarrassed by the way her teeth looked. Her right front tooth had a root canal and had turned almost black.  Even with a porcelain veneer trying to cover the black root, that tooth it was significantly darker than the rest of her teeth.  Also, the four old porcelain veneers didn’t cover the teeth all the way to her gum line, and Wendy was the first to admit that the color her old veneers really didn’t look natural.  But more importantly, Wendy really want a white, bright and beautiful smile!  Being in the professional world looking her very best is extremely important to her.  And unfortunately, her teeth and smile were not allowing her to look her very best.  Wendy met Dr. Huefner when he was a judge for the beauty pageant and came to his cosmetic dental practice to replace her old cosmetic dentistry and give her a sensational smile, the kind of smile she had always wanted.

dark tooth and old porcelain veneers

Wendy had four old porcelain veneers with a dark root that showed through one of them. She wanted a bright, white smile and it was time to have her old dentistry upgraded with newer, more artistic cosmetic dentistry techniques.

Dr. Huefner placed ten Empress porcelain veneers for Wendy and whitened her lower teeth with tooth bleaching (tooth whitening).  The dark front tooth was a cosmetic challenge, as Dr. Huefner had to use some special techniques in order to mask the dark color and enable her teeth and porcelain veneers to display normal tooth colors and translucency.  Wendy chose a bight, white color known as  BL1.  Also a “Enhanced smile design” was used from the LVI Smile Catalog.

Rachel Miss Teen-California-International and her Porcelain Veneers

After Dr. Huefner did a smile makeover for Rachel with eight porcelain veneers she went on to win the Miss Teen-California-International pageant.

Several years ago Rachel, one of our patients from Rancho Santa Margarita, was competing in beauty pageants.  An absolutely stunning young lady, Rachel didn’t like the appearance of her teeth.  She wanted them whiter and she felt that her cuspids (eye teeth) were too pointed.  In our smile analysis we discovered some other issues that Rachel didn’t realize.  When Rachel smiled her upper lip covered over more of her teeth than normal.  Also, her lateral incisors were too short and round.  In order to give her a stunning smile that would help Rachel in her competition Dr. Huefner recommended placing eight porcelain veneers.  This would enable him to not only give her the beautiful white teeth that she wanted on stage, but also improve the shape and length of her teeth to give Rachel the best smile possible.

After Dr. Huefner completed Rachel’s smile makeover with porcelain veneers, Rachel went on to win the Miss Teen-California-International competition and then was second runner up in the Miss Teen International pageant.  She has since graduated from college and pursuing a professional career.  An extremely talented, hard working and motivated individual, we are immensely proud of Rachel’s accomplishments.

Beautiful Smile and Perfect Teeth with Orange County Porcelain Veneers

Former Mrs. U.S.-Globe beauty pageant winner Jill Frick gets smile makeover by Dr. Huefner with Orange County porcelain veneers

The other day I had a conversation with former Orange County resident and Mrs. U.S. Globe beauty pageant winner, Jill Frick.  I had made Orange County porcelain veneers for her over ten years ago.  I was so pleased to see how beautiful her smile still was, and how beautiful the Orange County porcelain veneers I made her still were and how well they were still holding up.  Since then I’ve done smile makeovers with Orange County porcelain veneers for over a dozen beauty pageant winners, along with several models and actresses.  But Jill’s story is typical of someone who was beautiful to begin with, but after having Orange County porcelain veneers becomes even more beautiful and attractive.

Jill had composite bonding that over the years had been chipping away and discoloring. After discussing her goals with Dr. Huefner Jill decided it was time to upgrade her smile with a more permanent and better looking treatment, Orange County porcelain veneers.

It started out very simply, Jill had had plastic composite bonding on her front teeth that was done to overcome some of the cosmetic issues with older fillings and darkened teeth.  But plastic bonding, also called composite bonding, has certain limitations compared with the Orange County porcelain veneers that we use today.  Her plastic bonding wasn’t as strong and started chipping and discoloring.  It was at the point that she knew it was time for her to had her smile makeover redone, but this time with modern Orange County porcelain veneers instead of the composite bonding.

Before we started Jill made it very clear to me that this time she wanted her teeth to look much better than the composite veneers she already had.  She wanted her new teeth to be whiter, natural looking, and very elegant looking.  You see Jill had been a national spokesperson for the Women In Need Foundation’s abuse recovery program.  She was often on stage, speaking to groups about the program she was so dedicated to.  It was very obvious that Jill wanted me to give her my very best.  Without hesitation, I assured her that I would do just that!

This is the “trial smile” that Jill wore on her teeth after Dr. Huefner removed her old composite bonding. Dr. Huefner used these temporary composite veneers to determine Jill’s final smile design, specifically the shape, length, proportion and color of the final Orange County porcelain veneers that master ceramist Dave Stohlman would be making for her.

So, the first thing I did for Jill was bleach (whiten) her lower teeth and remove her old composite plastic bonding and place temporary veneers.  We call this phase of treatment “the trial smile”.  In one visit I custom made Jill ten plastic veneers of the color, length and shape of the Orange County porcelain veneers that I envisioned for her.  This was a very important step, a “test drive” so to speak, because if Jill liked the shape, length and color of her trial smile I would then duplicate that design in her final Orange County porcelain veneers.  The trial smile would serve as a template for them.  However, if Jill didn’t like the design, or wanted one or more elements changed, we would do that, or make note of the changes, before making the Orange County porcelain veneers.  I was very pleased that after wearing her trial smile Jill returned to my office a few days later loving the smile design I had done for her and gave me full written approval to move forward with the actual Orange County porcelain veneers following that design.  We did add a couple minor elements in the final design that wasn’t possible in the trial smile plastic temporary veneers.  We added natural incisal translucency to the tips or edges of her Orange County porcelain veneers, whitened the color slightly, and also added some very slight surface texture that imparts a real natualness to the Orange County porcelain veneers, especially when light is seen reflecting off of the surface.

I sent all of the very specific design information to Dave Stohlman, the master ceramist I use for most of my Orange County porcelain veneers.  It took Dave a couple weeks to complete Jills final Orange County porcelain veneers, but there was no rush.  Jill was very comfortable wearing the beautiful trial smile temporary veners, as after all, they looked almost perfect themselves.

Jill’s final smile design with Orange County porcelain veneers done by Dr. Huefner and master ceramist Dave Stohlman. Jill was extremely pleased with the final results, especially the color and shape of her new porcelain veneers. Many people would argue that Jill’s smile makeover gave her a perfect smile. You be the judge.

When we finally got the Orange County porcelain veneers back from Dave Stohlman, we had Jill return so that we could remove the trial smile temporary veneers, and try in the Orange County porcelain veneers for her approval.  Jill absolutely loved them!  We then bonded on the Orange County porcelain veneers utilizing our dental laser and a translucent bonding cement that gave her final Orange County porcelain veneers a very natural and life like look to them.

As a dentist who absolutely loves doing cosmetic dental treatment and all of the very specific minutia necessary to get a superlative result like with did for Jill with her Orange County porcelain veneers I could go on and on, describing countless aspects of all the details done for Jill.  And (laughing to myself), if you’ve gotten this far reading this post, you certainly know that I could do just that.  However, I will let the final photos of Jill’s Orange County porcelain veneers speak for our treatment more than any words could.

Orange County Porcelain Veneers for Mrs. Globe Tracy Kemble

Orange County porcelain veneers

Tracy Kemble, former Mrs. Globe Pageant winner and current director of the pageant and Women In Need Foundation had smile makeover with twenty porcelain veneers by Dr. Huefner

Tracy Kemble is a former Mrs Globe pageant winner and current director of the Mrs. Globe Pageant.  She is an amazing woman, stunning and beautiful with many accomplishments including author, public speaker, model, nationally recognized authority on domestic abuse and director of the Women In Need Foundation.  One would think that she had everything she ever wanted, but she didn’t.  She didn’t have the beautiful smile that she had always wanted because her teeth were discolored, crooked and short.

Lower photo: Tracy’s teeth were crooked, short and discolored. Upper photo: Dr. Huefner placed ten Orange County porcelain veneers on Tracy’s upper teeth, giving her an incredibly beautiful new smile. Several months later Tracy returned to Dr. Huefner and had him place ten more Orange County porcelain veneers on her lower teeth to complete her smile makeover.

Orange County Porcelain Veneers fix Tracy’s crooked, discolored teeth

Tracy speaks from the heart and one of the principles dearest to her is self improvement.  Tracy was introduced to  Orange County cosmetic dentist Dr. Huefner by Jill Frick, a previous Mrs. U.S.-Globe pageant winner whom we did a smile makeover for with Orange County porcelain veneers.  After seeing Jill’s beautiful smile, Tracy asked us to do cosmetic dental treatment for her as well.  Tracy was a perfect candidate for Orange County porcelain veneers.  Her teeth were great conditions with no cavities or fillings, they were just discolored and crooked, both things that are easily treatable with Orange County porcelain veneers.

Mrs. Globe Tracy Kemble cover model on AACD Journal

After completing Tracy’s Orange County porcelain veneer treatment she was featured as the cover model for the AACD Journal which included Dr. Huefner’s article describing her cosmetic dental treatment.

Before Dr. Huefner began her treatment he had a heart to heart conversation about her goals and what she expected of us.  First on her list was straight white teeth like Jill’s, but Tracy was very specific that she was also very concerned about having teeth that were “too white” that might look unnatural when she is on stage and has the spot light on her.  Dr. Huefner assured Tracy that he would do two things that made her feel very comfortable about proceeding with Orange County porcelain veneers. First, Dr. Huefner told Tracy he would be using a very natural “lifelike” porcelain that has enamel-like translucency, definitely not fake or artificial looking like some opaque veneers or crowns.  Second, that he would let Tracy choose the actual color of her new veneers.  That being said, Tracy had Dr. Huefner makeover her smile with ten Orange County porcelain veneers on her upper teeth.  With much discussion and pondering over the color of her new porcelain veneers, Tracy chose a BL3 shade from the tooth shade guide.  Along with Dr. Huefner’s recommendation, an “enhanced” smile style for the tooth shape library was used.  The “enhanced” smile style is one of Dr. Huefner’s favorite designs for women who want a feminine and youthful look.

Tracy’s new smile with Orange County porcelain veneers was spectacular!  She was so thrilled that several months later she came back to Dr. Huefner to have him treat her lower teeth also with ten more Orange County porcelain veneers.

After Tracy’s smile makeover was completed she became the cover model for the prestigious American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Journal which also featured Orange County cosmetic dentist Dr. Huefner’s article about Tracy’s Orange County porcelain veneers.

Beauty Queen Gets Dental Veneers by Orange County Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Huefner

beauty pageant queen with dental veneers orange county

Dr. Huefner shown on stage with Dolores at the Mrs. Globe 2004 pageant after Dr. Huefner enhanced Dolores' smile with dental veneers.

Dolores Couceiro from Madrid, Spain, was the reigning Mrs. Spain and won the Mrs. Globe 2002 beauty pageant.  She is one of our favorite patients, as not only is Dolores beautiful but she came all the way from Spain to Orange County cosmetic dentist Dr. Huefner to have him redo her smile with dental veneers.

As can be seen by the photo of her smile before her cosmetic dental veneers, Dolores had an OK smile, especially by European standards.  However now representing the Mrs. Globe Pageant Dolores needed an outstanding smile.  Her teeth were a bit crooked and definitely discolored.  She said that her goal was to have straight white even teeth.  Dr. Huefner noted that her gums were a little uneven and asked Dolores if she wanted him to even out her gums as well?  She said that she hadn’t noticed that, but now looking at her gums she wanted him to do whatever he could to give her the best smile possible.  Thus Dr. Huefner utilized the dental gum laser and reshaped Dolores’ gums to make them even.

Dolores Couceior was the reigning Mrs. Globe and came to Dr. Huefner's Orange County cosmetic dental practice to have him make her porcelain veneers.

Lower photo: Dolores had uneven gums, crooked and discolored teeth. Upper photo: Dr. Huefner reshaped Dolores' uneven gums with the dental gum laser to make them even and all the same length. Then he placed ten porcelain veneers utilizing BL1 shade porcelain and the "enhanced" smile design from the LVI smile catalog.

Dr. Huefner then made ten dental veneers for her upper front teeth.  Dolores wanted a whiter smile.  She originally had A3 shade teeth and Dr. Huefner made her new teeth shade BL1 from the tooth shade guide, which is significantly whiter.  He also utilized an “enhanced” smile design from the LVI smile catalog of smile designs.

Dolores is a stunning lady and her new dental veneers by Dr. Huefner gave her a stunning smile. Notice how the edges of her upper front teeth follow the curve of her lower teeth when she smiles. This was specifically done when Dr. Huefner designed the length of each of her teeth.

Dolores’ teeth were a bit worn and slightly shorter than they were when she was younger, so one of the things that were very important for Dr. Huefner to do was make her dental veneers slightly longer than her natural teeth were.  The goal was that when Dolores smiled that the edges of her upper teeth with dental veneers would follow closely the curve of her lower lip.  Cosmetic dentists call that “following the smile line.”

orange county dental veneers by dr huefner

Whether indoors or outdoors with natural lighting, Dolores' porcelain veneers gave her a natural, beautiful looking smile.

Another thing that Dr. Huefner incorporated into Dolores’ smile design was making building out her side (bicuspid) teeth to give her a fuller smile.  Many people mistakenly think that the only way to make a person’s dental arch wider is with orthodontics (braces), but cosmetic dentists do this all the time by making dental veneers slightly thicker on teeth that lean.    The end result are not only straight teeth, but the dental arch is wider and the teeth are in proportion and balanced with each other.  Lips and gums are also most definitely taken into consideration when designing the size, shape, thickness and length of the dental veneers.

The end result for this beauty queen from Madrid, Spain, who came Orange County cosmetic dentist Dr. Huefner  was an amazing new smile created with ten dental veneers.  Her teeth and gums were straight and even, and she got the beautiful white smile that she always wanted.

Model and Mrs. Nevada Beauty Pageant Winner Comes to Dr. Huefner for Orange County Porcelain Veneers Before the Mrs. U.S.-Globe Beauty Pageant

orange county porcelain veneers

Tierra got her beautiful new smile with eight porcelain veneers by Dr. Huefner. She placed in the top fifteen at the Mrs. U.S.-Globe beauty pageant and is now pursuing her modeling career.

Tierra, a dancer and model and mother of two, had short, worn teeth.  After becoming Mrs. Nevada, which entitled her to compete in the Mrs. U.S.-Globe beauty pageant, Tierra realized that she was in desperate need of cosmetic dentistry to enhance her smile.  Knowing that longer, whiter, prettier teeth would enhance her chances in the Mrs. U.S.-Globe pageant and her modeling career in general, Tierra flew out to Dr. Huefner’s cosmetic dentistry practice for a smile makeover with porcelain veneers.

short worn teeth due to bruxism habit

Tierra's short, worn teeth made her smile look 20-30 years older than she was. She knew that by making her teeth the same length as they were before her grinding shortened them she would have a much prettier smile.

When Tierra arrived for her initial consultation we took photos of her teeth and smile.  Tierra was a nighttime bruxer (one who grinds their teeth at night when sleeping) and had worn her teeth down considerably.  Her teeth were short and square and a slight yellowish color.  Dr. Huefner pointed out that her teeth actually looked twenty to thirty years older than she was!  Also, the edges of her teeth were flat.  To give Tierra a more attractive, feminine and youthful looking smile Dr. Huefner recommended placing eight porcelain veneers.  The new porcelain veneers would be longer, rounder and whiter in color.  The edges of her upper teeth (i.e. edges of her new porcelain veneers) would follow the curved contour of her lower lip, called “following the smile line,” rather than being flat and straight. The end result would be a much more attractive smile and would help her in the beauty pageant competition and also her modeling career.

Tierra, with her new smile is now a successful model.

Tierra began her cosmetic dentistry almost immediately, as the Mrs. U.S.-Globe beauty pageant was right around the corner.  Her eight porcelain veneers were fabricated in two weeks time and the resulting new smile created by Dr. Huefner was stunning.  Since Tierra is still a nighttime bruxer, Dr. Huefner also fabricated a night guard bruxism appliance to keep her from wearing her lower teeth down.

Dr. Huefner, being a pageant judge and sponsor naturally attended the Mrs. Globe pageant and was there to watch Tierra. She competed extremely well, was a crowd and judge favorite, and easily made it into the top fifteen.

If you’d like to see a recent commercial video Tierra was featured in, please go to and turn on your speaker.

Tierra's new porcelain veneers were longer, whiter and more naturally shaped than her short, worn teeth. The edges of her upper veneers followed the curve of her lower lip when she smiled, called "following the smile line." All and all, Dr. Huefner created a much more attractive and youthful smile for Tierra.

Please feel free to comment or ask questions about Tierra’s porcelain veneer treatment.

Mrs. U.S.-Globe Gets Porcelain Veneers for Winning Smile by Dr. Huefner

beauty pageant porcelain veneers

Liz Eddy, Mrs. U.S.-Globe had Dr. Huefner create a "winning smile" for her with porcelain veneers before competing for the title of Mrs. Globe.

Liz Eddy is the former Mrs. Pacific States and winner of the Mrs. U.S.-Globe pageant.  She had old style porcelain veneers that were made too dark, one had chipped and all were unnatural looking because they were too thick and bulky.  Before competing for the title of Mrs. Globe, Liz came to Orange County cosmetic dentist Dr. Huefner to have him create a new, improved smile with new porcelain veneers.

When evaluating Liz for her new smile it was very important to qualify her goals.  Most important to her were two things:

  • that she had a great smile that stood out when she was on stage
  • that her new teeth with porcelain veneers looked “natural”, as if they were her own teeth.
porcelain veneers too dark and thick

Liz knew she needed a smile makeover to replace her old unattractive porcelain veneers. She felt they were too dark, too thick and one veneer had chipped.

In evaluating her face and smile the following were noted:

  • Liz had a well balanced face with normal proportions and symmetry
  • Her lips, which would be framing her smile, were naturally full (without any fillers or lip enhancement procedures) and had normal curvature
  • The amount of teeth displayed when smiling was ideal and normal, showing only a little of her gums (normal range is showing 90% of the upper front teeth when smiling or 1-2mm or gums).  Thus, no gum reshaping or gum additions (grafting) were necessary
  • The number of upper teeth she showed when smiling was 8-10, which was also normal.  This had implications on how many porcelain veneers Dr. Huefner would do for her.
Orange County porcelain veneers

For Liz's smile makeover with ten new porcelain veneers Dr. Huefner designed her new smile to follow her smile line (the curvature of her lower lip when smiling). The porcelain veneers were made in shade BL1 and the "enhanced" smile style from the tooth shape catalog.

Dr. Huefner customized her smile design for a winning smile utilizing many advanced techniques he learned in his comprehensive cosmetic dentistry training at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI) and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Rather than having the EDGES of her front teeth straight in a line as her old veneers were, Dr. Huefner chose to have the edges follow the curve of her lower lip.  This is an advanced cosmetic dentistry principal referred to as “following the smile line” (i.e. the curvature of her lower lip).  This principal produces a more pleasing, natural and attractive smile than was done with her original porcelain veneers that Dr. Huefner was replacing.

mrs. u.s.-globe swimsuit competition

A spinning instructor and obviously a fitness buff, Liz fared extremely well in the swimsuit competition.

In choosing the specific smile style from the tooth shapes library, Dr. Huefner specified the “enhanced” smile style from the LVI smile library.  This “enhanced” design is a favorite of Dr. Huefner’s and considered by many cosmetic dentists as one that is more youthful, softer and feminine – a very attractive smile style for most women!

For the tooth color from the tooth shade guide, Dr. Huefner and Liz agreed that BL1 would make her smile stand out while on stage.  By utilizing a semi-translucent and enamel-like porcelain (IPS Empress Esthetic porcelain), her smile would also have a very natural and non-artificial look.  Another advantage of Empress porcelain is that it has an excellent track record in dentistry for strength and longevity.

Additional smile design features utilized was slight incisal translucency and slight surface texture.  Both of these features differed from her old porcelain veneers and gave her “new teeth” and porcelain veneers a very natural look, achieving her goal of “looking like real teeth.”

Liz’s smile makeover with ten porcelain veneers by Dr. Huefner was completed within a three week period in time for the Mrs. Globe beauty pageant.  On stage and in her photographs, the results of her new smile was absolutely stunning!  She competed extremely well as the reigning Mrs. U.S.-Globe, placing in the top five internationally, but to our disappointment, Liz did not win the title of Mrs. Globe.

Fiery Red Hair and To Die For Smile with Porcelain Veneers Orange County for Ms. Germany-Globe

orange county porcelain veneers

Fiery red Inessa got her to die for smile makeover with ultra thin porcelain veneers to help her compete in the Mrs. Globe pageant.

Inessa, the reigning Ms. Germany-Globe and international hair designer, came to Southern California to compete in the Mrs. Globe Beauty Pageant.  A beautiful lady with poise and charm, Inessa had the entire package to compete well…. except for her smile.  Her teeth were very yellow and had chips and spaces.

Knowing she had only moments on stage to impress the judges and audience, Inessa thought that it would serve her best to get a smile makeover before competing in the Mrs. Globe pageant.  Thus, she came to our cosmetic dental practice in Laguna Niguel, referred to us by the beauty pageant.

When looking at Inessa’s teeth the chipping, spacing and discoloration that she was concerned about was obvious.  We gave Inessa two alternative treatments that would address her issues of concern:

  • extremely conservative cosmetic dentistry – bleach her upper and lower teeth and then do some composite bonding to fill in the chips and spacing between her teeth
  • place ultra thin porcelain veneers (i.e. Lumineers, Durathin veneers, Nano veneers or Empress veneers) on her upper ten teeth and bleach only her lower teeth
chipped spaced discolored teeth

Inessa knew that with her chipped, spaced and discolored teeth that she would not compete as well in the Mrs. Globe Pageant. She wanted to know what options cosmetic dentistry had to offer her to enhance her smile on stage.

After thoroughly explaining both procedures to Inessa, along with the differences in how her final teeth and smile would appear, she asked what she felt was the most important question:  “Dr. Huefner, I need to look great on stage.  I’ve got one day, one shot and I really have to look my very best.  In your opinion which would give me the absolutely most beautiful smile?”

orange county porcelain veneers

Inessa chose to have Dr. Huefner place ten ultra thin porcelain veneers. The end result was a to die for smile and she did very well on stage at the pageant.

The answer for Inessa was porcelain veneers for her upper ten front teeth.  Her treatment went extremely smooth and was completed in under three weeks time and three dental appointments.  She chose a BL1 shade from the tooth shade guide and an “enhanced” smile style from the tooth shapes catalog.  Inessa did well competing in the Mrs. Globe pageant, but did not win.  She continues in her profession as an international hair designer, currently working both in Los Angeles and Greece and occasionally visits us in Orange County so that we can check her porcelain veneers.

Comparing Inessa's teeth before and after ultra thin porcelain veneer treatment one can appreciate how much better her smile looked on stage and in her portrait photos.

In her portrait above you can see the “to die for smile” created for fiery red Inessa with porcelain veneers at our Laguna Niguel cosmetic dental practice.
