How Long Do Porcelain Veneers Last?

Porcelain veneers may appear fragile, but once the thin shells have been applied and bonded to your teeth by an experienced cosmetic dentist, they become durable and long-lasting. While there is no expiration date for porcelain veneers, most patients find they need to replace their veneers after about 10-15 years. However, with good care, porcelain veneers can potentially last even longer.

Proper care for porcelain veneers mainly involves avoiding bad habits that can damage your teeth, such as:

  • Bruxism (grinding/clenching your teeth)
  • Chewing on hard candy or ice
  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Using your teeth as a tool to open or cut
  • Poor brushing technique

Keeping up with regular bi-annual visits to your cosmetic dentist is also important in order to prolong the life of your veneers. Dr. Huefner will inspect your veneers to identify any damage or weaknesses, addressing problems before they compromise the longevity of your porcelain veneers. By practicing good oral hygiene, avoiding the habits listed above, and visiting Dr. Huefner on a regular basis, you can expect to enjoy your new smile for decades to come.
